Solstice Stars Series : Star of Mystery

Making this block with paper piecing method is really fun, specially with great tutorial from Fresh Lemon. This block is 4th quilt along block from Solstice Stars Series. Find tutorial here.

I bought a new fabric a couple days ago, I used it in the middle of this block. YELLOW is really a fresh color.. I used BLUE and RED too..
Red means energy, vitality, action, courage etc. This is what I need from last week weakness :)

I start a new knitting project, I will make a hat.. RED Hat.. maybe I will give it to a friend who has a birthday on March or other months to come... I certainly will keep it as a gift ;)

My mom sent me some fabrics and asked me to make a baby quilt. A friend of ours will give birth on this February. We don't know yet, whether the baby is a boy or a girl because Ultrasound equipment is not available there, she lived in a small village in the mountain away from the central hospital.
But we decided to make it in pink colors. If the baby born is a boy, my mom already has a baby quilt in blue ;

I used my Lil' Twister tool again. But it is difference from my first twister project, the twister block is in the center now.
I sent this Twister top to my mom this afternoon, we need another border and my mom will do it and of course she will do the finishing too... My mom is an expert and she works very fast... I'm proud of her :))

Hope our friend will love this little gift and wish the process of her giving birth will go smoothly.

I sewed this block last week but I did not have a time to posting it to my blog.

Last week I wasn't feeling well, not because I'm sick but I just felt weak. I think I need more vitamin..lol

Today I have look at Fresh Lemon, Faith already posting the latest block of Solstice Star Series. It's gorgeous star with paper piecing method like Whirling Star.

Well, maybe tomorrowI I will make that block. Right now I still want to get rest a little bit, hopefully tomorrow I will fresh again.

Finished Project: Sue Sunbonnet in Fashion Style

We replaced our Sampler Project with a new one, but we still have our piecing class. We just changed a place to another side of the shop's wall.

I am very pleased to see my applique project finally hung on the shop. The shop looks more brighten with Sue in fashion style on the wall :)

And my friend's projects are nearly finish too. I hope soon I can take the pictures of their work. They always make a beautiful work in every new project, can't wait to see it.

Whirling Star

Time seems to run so slow in this 2 days, I was glad when 2nd Block Tutorial of Quilt Along of Solstice Stars Series from Fresh Lemons has been posted. I love paper piecing and this tutorial is very helpful. Can't wait for week 3 for another Solstice Star.

Meanwhile, I hope my knitting project will be done by this week.. My daughter wants a new hat, and I think I need one too ;)

Chinese Lantern

Today I made this 8"x12" Lantern block to congratulate my chinese friends who celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year. I found the idea in here.

Yesterday our neighbor sent us a box of Nian gao, known as Chinese New Year pudding, made up of glutinous rice flour, wheat starch and brown sugar. Delicious to eat Nian gao with hot tea without sugar.

In Chinese family their children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and recieve money in red paper envelopes (Ang Pow).

So funny.. a couple hours before, I said I don't wanna to get near my sewing machine this weekend.
But, because of my daughter busy baking in the kitchen and I should watch over her. She didn't want me to help her.. "I can do it, mom!".. so I just watch her from dining table.

What should I do then? .. Well, I took some bright color fabrics and cut them and start to touch my sewing machine again (hohoho) .. Ribbon Star tutorial, here.

Twister - part:2

Finished before weekend .. yeahhh!
I have another plan for this weekend, don't wanna get near to my sewing machine..lol

It's really fun project to make.

Lil' Obi always playing around since beginning. He always pounced on the Twister and Wonky Star. Maybe he wants a quilt too. ( I will think about it, Obi!)

In a few more hours year 2011 will change .. For some reason this year just really flew for me.. My mind is dancing back to the time that has elapsed. As I thought back.. What did have been done?.. What dreams have come true? Whatever it is, Thanks God for everything in 2011.

End of my lips was raised, a warm smile accompanied the heart and mind forward into the future. What will be for next year? A million dreams popping up again.. with the hope that it would be better next year.

May you be surrounded by the love of those closest to you.

Stars "Xmas" Tree

Some of my friends are busy preparing for Christmas celebrations. And others who are not Christian are also busy preparing year-end holidays, like I do.
Today will be our last quilting class in 2011, it will be closed until the beginning of next year.

So for our last project we gonna have this X'mas Tree for Free Fun Project.

There will be a game to make a pattern and some fabrics for give-aways. ;)

Sunday Morning: November Rain

Rainy season has come, do we need an umbrella?.

We can hear the raindrops falling, it sounds like a song,

and we will sing along in our hearts.

A cup of coffee or tea or hot chocolate will give us warmth.

And we can feel love is in the air that will give comfort.

Before:

4 AM, it was too early to wake up on Sunday morning. But I couldn't go back to bed again, so I took my book and do some sketches. I finished up 3 blocks of simple applique when my kids asked for breakfast at 11 AM .. is it breakfast or lunch? :D

When my daughter accompanied me on my working table at home, she asked for a project that she can do too. And she keep asking me for this and that, so I better stop doing my project for awhile..."May I borrow this, mom?".. "May I have this, mommy? .. "Can you show me how to make this one?".. after she was satisfied to ask, she began working on her project in silence until it's finish :))

She made beautiful mug rug and pincushion, I am so proud of her... Good job, sweetie!

About 7 months ago, I went to Quilt'nCalicoes Store in Singapore. Nice quilt store with many interesting stuff but the prices are quite expensive... hiks!

I couldn't spend much there, not the right time.. I should save some more money for this purpose .. and I'll be back.. I hope! :)

Well, I did buy some little things.. I got some fabrics :) and Kimono Kits and Pattern.
My Kimono project has done last week, I combined with some local fabric that I bought in Jakarta.

Happy Wednesday Fun Project - Reversible Purse

My friends wanted an easy and fun project. And they asked it for free.. (No charge, please Ibu!).
The ladies are so funny, I like them. We talk and laugh a lot, we share a lot of things while we were sewing.. they make me happy every Wednesday!

I prepared the pattern "Reversible Purse" from Martha Stewart and brought some fabric that already cut from home. So at the end of our class project, we started to make this fun project.

I didn't show them this bag, it's a surprise gift. But I only made one bag, I asked them to write down their name on a piece of paper and put it in a box, then I picked one name with my eyes close. Only one person looked so happy, and the others shouted... arrrgghhh!!!

So, I said :"Ok..ok, I will pick one more name and I will give this unfinished bag!".
I bet you can guess how they start to scream again...LOL

Then they said : " Ibu, please make a fun project again next week!".
And I said : "...Aaaaarrrrggghhh!!!".

Pinky Birds Applique Project

Last week my Birds Applique Project was hanging on the shop wall. I am very happy. Two lovely ladies who join this class look very excited to complete their project when they saw my pinky birds :) ... Each of them make a beautiful color combinations block. Of course not pinky like mine, they said my pinky birds are so sweet sweet colors...LOL.

Sampler Block Project (for beginner) #2

It's been a while since my last update. My kids exam took my attention and thanks God they are past to next grade.. Congratulation K&K! :))

This Sampler project finished two months ago, and right now it is hanging on the shop wall, the shop where I used to share my quilting knowledge.

Well, after this project next project will be start, there were three ladies (the shop's customers) asked me to share how to make applique project, actually I already have 6 applique blocks... and I ready to share it with them.. I will posting here a.s.a.p! :)

Tea Time Pincushion

I always keep all my little piece of fabrics in a box. When I need some of them for my project, I need time for looking a right piece that I want.. fuihhh, maybe I should organize them by their colors next time :)

We asked some ladies who live near my parent's house to join our Quilting Group, some of them are very interested. My sister gives the piecing lesson, my mom taught them how to quilt and I've got my part in design (to choose fabrics motif and colors).

"How to make a bag" is the latest lesson that we shared to these ladies. This one is a sample bag that I made for this project.

I fall in love with these two cute applique flowers.. they turn beautifully after I finish the quilt.

If they (village ladies) ready to make some bags, we like to help them to sale their bags to the city. And we hope it will increase their income for their daily needs.

Art Latte Pincushion

I love coffee. Am I addicted to coffee? ..well, I don't think so! ..but I am obsessed by the aroma of coffee and how to make a cup of delicious coffee. To learn how to make Art Latte is my next goal, if I have espresso machine.. arghhh it's too expensive!

Well, this Art Latte Pincushion doesn't need espresso machine.. with my sewing machine I made one cup cute art latte, LOL

This cute cup had a tragedy story... I only used it for drinking my coffee twice, then the handle broke when washed... I was sad because I like this cup so much.

So after the cup handle fixed I choose some scrap fabrics and I made the heart shape with paper piecing, and a simple quilt without pattern because I just follow my hand up and down :)

And I'm HAPPY!

Sampler Block Project (for beginner) #1

I met a lady who own the craft store that I used to come for knitting class. She offered me to teach quilting in her store. At first, I not sure about it but my mom and my sister encouraged me to take it.

So, I started to share (I prefer to call it "sharing" then "teaching") a beginner lesson there once a week. I choose six simple patchwork blocks as "Sampler Block Project" for beginner. And I give 6 times meeting for this package.

A Birthday Gift

My beloved sister gave me this beautiful quilt for my latest birthday in May. It's log cabin pattern, she knows that I like these kind of colors. I love green, brown, tan and broken white. I designed the quilt pattern. I chose a simple pattern, grid pattern for the base/background and circles for the accent.

I put it on my sofa... it looks gorgeous, isn't? :))

With this bag I can carry my books , even my laptop fit in it.

What I love about this bag is it has a little house on it .
Cloud, fence and tulip buttons made from wood.

These little applique trees make me always want to touch them,
... look so cute!

I've got the pattern from Japanese Quilt Book, but I made a little modification in size.
It's bigger than the real size in the pattern.
I tried to find the same fabric motifs (which is it hard to do that :)
... but at least the colors nearly the same.

Secret Garden

Pertama kali group quilt ini dibentuk dengan tujuan agar para anggota bersemangat untuk terus berkarya. Karena pada setiap pertemuan kita akan "show off " karya quilt yang telah dan sedang kita kerjakan...biasanya teman-teman akan memberi masukkan untuk karya kita.

FriendShip Square yang kemudian kita namakan Arisan Blok adalah untuk blok PR kita yang wajib dibuat. Pada setiap pertemuan akan dikocok nama-nama yang akan menerima blok-blok quilt pada pertemuan berikutnya.. seperti arisan lainnya kehadiran anggota wajib jika ingin mendapat project ini, tanpa kehadirannya nama yang keluar akan dimasukkan kembali ke gelas kocokan.

Setiap anggota bebas meminta pattern dan warna sesuai keinginan. Aku menginginkan pattern butterfly with tan colors..karena aku sudah punya border dengan warna bernuansa kecoklatan dengan motif/pattern bunga yang sudah tergeletak lama di dalam lemari karena termasuk proyek gagal kepake..dulu border ini kubuat untuk dipadukan dengan proyek samplerku..tapi guru Jepangku tidak menyetujui ideku..huhuhu

Karena sudah punya border ber-pattern bunga muncul ideku untuk mengkombinasikan dengan kupu-kupu, kebetulan aku sangat-sangat suka dengan kupu-kupu seperti bapakku yang punya hobby main dan membuat layang-layang dengan gambar kupu-kupu..lah kenapa jadi cerita tentang bapakku,,hehehe

Untuk melengkapi jumlah blok-blok dari anggota Arisan aku juga harus membuat 1 buah blok. Pattern blokku ini kudapat dari ibuku, kukerjakan dengan reverse applique..semua warna yang ada disini adalah warna-warna favoritku.

Ibuku juga anggota Arisan Blok ini, dari beliau aku dapat blok diatas ini, dengan jahitannya yang super rapi aku menerima dengan suka cita pemberiannya.

Demikian juga dengan 13 buah blok di bawah ini, aku sangat berterima kasih kepada semua teman-teman anggota Arisan Blok yang sudah memberiku these beautiful butterflies blocks.

Semua blok dan border sudah kusambung dan friendship square ini kuberi judul "Secret Garden"...kebetulan waktu aku menjahit ditemani alunan "Song from a Secret Garden"

Next steps are bathing and quilting...hmmmm hmmm!

Little things ~~

Kadang kalau lagi iseng coba-coba teknik piecing, cuma buat 1block saja sudah cukup, sering tidak aku lanjutkan lagi, seperti Logcabin block ini.

Dari pada sayang tidak terpakai, kalau lagi rajin aku selesaikan saja untuk placemat atau potholder.

"Say, bisa ko buatkan ka' Baby Quilt buat anak temanku yang baru lahir?", dengan logat Makassar-nya keponakan suamiku yang sebaya denganku meng-order Baby Quilt ini.

Setelah melihat-lihat majalah Quilting, aku putuskan untuk membuat Baby Quilt sederhana ini mengingat waktu hanya seminggu. Seperti biasa aku dan ibuku suka mengerjakan project bersama. Color design, cutting dan applique adalah bagianku, lalu piecing dan batting bagian ibuku.

Sementara ibuku melakukan bagian piecing dan batting, aku menyulam label ucapan yang akan kutempel dibagian belakangnya nanti, setelah aku meng-quilt-nya.

Temanku yang adalah keponakan suamiku senang dan puas dengan pesanannya. Dan hasil kerjasamaku dan ibuku selalu kusulam "by: Emma's Quilt"...yaitu nama ibuku :) ...Love you, Mum!

MY CITY

Anak lelaki-ku mulai dari dia bisa duduk sudah suka main mobil-mobilan. Dan benda apapun yang dipegang akan menjadi mobil-mobilan, botol susu, buku bacaan, sendok dan biskuitpun menjadi mobil-mobilan. Sekarang umurnya 13 tahun masih suka bermain dengan koleksi mobil-mobilannya yang dia simpan rapi di dalam satu tas, dan anakku sangat mengenal jenis-jenis mobil yang ada di jalan raya mulai dari merek sampai kelebihan dan kekurangan mobil tersebut.

Quilt ini ku buat 7 tahun yang lalu sampai hari ini masih setia menyelimuti tidur anak lelaki-ku. "My City" selalu menemani anakku bermimpi mengendarai mobil kesayangannya sambil berkeliling kota hayalannya ;)

Flowers Basket

Setelah ikut kursus Quilting tahap I yang menghasilkan Sampler Block waktu itu, project selanjutnya aku mencoba membuat Flowers Basket ini. Dengan teknik full hand made mulai dari piecing, applique dan quilting. Bahan aplikasi bunga-bunganya sebagian besar ku dapat dari koleksi kain ibuku.

Pilihan warna pink adalah warna favorit anak perempuanku, dan Quilt ini memang kubuat untuk dia. Kemarin anak perempuanku merayu-rayu minta dibuatkan satu lagi dengan pola dan warna yang berbeda. Aku masih merancang-rancang desain seperti apa yang dia inginkan...mudah-mudahan dapat kupenuhi permintaannya segera ;)

Autumn Sampler

Hari ini aku selesai memasang batting untuk my other Sampler Project. Walaupun dengan sedikit perjuangan karena lutut kananku agak nyeri karena cedera otot yang aku tidak tau apa penyebabnya.

Awalnya ukuran Quilting ini untuk disampirkan di sofa tapi karena warnanya terlalu gelap (..menurut suami-ku yang terus terang memang ahli-nya kalau soal warna he3..), pilihan warna-warna Autumn agak menyulitkanku mencari tambahan kain untuk mengimbangi kerasnya warna coklat tua yang ada di block piecing-nya. Untunglah adikku mengajak hunting bahan ke Bandung, akhirnya bahan untuk tambahan border dengan warna yang sesuai keinginanku aku dapatkan ;)
Dan jadilah ukuran Quilting yang lebih besar ini dan sepertinya akan menjadi another blanket yang bakal menambah koleksi dikamar tidur..

Hanging Out with Friends

Pada waktu anak lelaki-ku masuk SD kelas 1 aku sering ikut ke sekolah, menunggu di kantin sekolah bersama ibu-ibu lain. Pada awalnya aku dan teman-teman suka pergi jalan-jalan kadang ke Mall atau ke tempat-tempat makan yang enak dan murah, tapi kemudian kami lebih sering nongkrong sambil ngobrol ngalor-ngidul di kantin sekolah..

Biasanya untuk mengisi waktu sambil chit-chat dengan teman-teman aku bawa Quilting-anku, Karena project Wall Hanging ini aku kerjakan full dengan jahit tangan dan ukurannya tidak besar jadi mudah untuk kubawa kemana-mana. Melihat aku asik menjahit sambil mengobrol, beberapa teman tertarik untuk mencoba membuat project ini, maka mereka memintaku untuk mengajari cara membuatnya. Keesokan harinya kami pergi membeli bahan kain di pasar Cipadu, kebetulan mereka memang suka belanja bahan baju dan sprei disana. Aku memberi masukan bahwa katun adalah jenis bahan kain yang mudah digunakan bagi pemula dan mereka harus mencucinya terlebih dahulu. Masing-masing temanku memilih kombinasi warna yang berbeda...Seru sekali waktu itu!
Pada hari kami memulai project Quilting kantin sekolah berganti suasana, yang biasanya ribut dengan celoteh ibu-ibu menjadi lengang, mereka serius sekali memegang jarum dan benang...

Karena anakku dan anak teman-temanku sudah banyak yang pindah sekolah kami sudah tidak pernah bertemu lagi. Sekarang anak lelaki-ku sudah kelas 8, setiap aku lihat Wall Hanging ini aku teringat teman-temanku dan biasanya aku langsung sms-an...cuma mau bilang "Hi, how are you friend!"

ORIGAMI PAPER PIECING

Warna fav-ku adalah hijau, pola Paperpiecing Quilt ini aku dapat dari majalah lama. Di majalah itu sebenarnya project taplak meja, tapi stock kainku cukup banyak jadi aku buat selimut ukuran king saja...Lumayan lama pengerjaannya karena kalau rasa bosan menyerang, bahan akan kusimpan sampai nanti semangat datang lagi.

Karena semangat tidak muncul-muncul, maka lamalah kain tersimpan di lemari. Kejadian buruk kualami dengan bahan ini (warna coklat bintik2) berubah warna menjadi agak pudar. Dibilang luntur tapi tidak ada lunturan di kain putih background-nya, agak bingung juga aku waktu itu masak sih warna menguap !?!

Walau agak kecewa aku tetap lanjutkan project-ku ini, alhasil setelah selesai dan Quilt aku cuci perbedaan warna hampir tidak terlihat. Dan bangga-nya aku dengan hasil karya-ku ;)

Quilt ini kukerjakan dalam waktu hampir 2 tahun (Sept 2000-Jul 2002). Karena guru ditempat aku ambil kelas Quilting berasal dari Jepang dan beliau datang ke Indonesia setahun hanya 2-3 kali saja.
Sampai sekarang aku, suamiku dan anak2 suka rebutan ingin memakai Sampler Blocks ini untuk selimut di malam hari.
