Life is Beautiful

Every morning the air was chill and fresh in this rainy season. While I was enjoying my morning coffee I did some drawing for my next project. 

My morning coffee 01 : I am home, the place where I belong. (I just got back from Bali)

My morning coffee 02 : In the fate of love. We loved with a love that was more then love.

My morning coffee 03 : Heart is a basket of love.

My morning coffee 04 : The butterfly counts not month, but moments, and yet has time enough.

My morning coffee 05 : Love is like wind, you can't see it but you can feel it.

My morning coffee 06 : One should grow in love, like a tree thats grows. Takes root for trunk and branches, leaves for nourishment, and age for strength.

My morning coffee 07 : Home is where my coffee always tastes so yummy!

Soon I will start to sew,  after I finish a few more patterns. I still need two or three more block designs. The theme of this project is "Life is Beautiful". I've got flower's garden, lovely hearts, basket of flowers, butterflies, stars in the sky, trees, and home sweet home.

I think I will draw some pets, like cat and rabbit  to complete it :)

Log Cabin : The Earth Meet The Sky.

After a long time never rained, yesterday rain brought a sense of joy. It was really a heavy rain.. but I saw the trees and the grass smiling :) .. Fresh air smelled so nice!
While enjoying the raindrops, I cut my fabric into strips. And I sew them strip by strip... and tadaaa!

The earth (brown) meet the sky (off white) through the rain, and my heart (red) is in the middle :))

Sixteen Log cabin blocks finished in the afternoon. But suddenly the electric power off ...aarghh!!
I couldn't continue my work. But then I just played with my blocks. These four designs are my favorite.

After my kids went to school this morning, I continued my unfinished work. I chose the Sawtooth Star.

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed

Nothing's worrying me.

I'm so happy, this afternoon I made some flowers for my appliqué blocks..

Mug Rug : "Little House"

Simple small project made from scraps.

Enjoying my Sunday morning. A cup of coffee will give great energy to start my new projects.. Today the sun shines so brightly, time to wash some fabrics then ironed them later :))

Halloween - Sampler Blocks

On April, my friend and I started to make these Halloween quilt project for our sons. I made a single size and she made a queen size. Last month both of our project finished with beautiful hand quilting made by two ladies who live in small village call Wanaraja in West Java.

It's an interesting project if we do it together. We have a plan to make another project, but we have not decided yet what project it will be. She want to make a quilt for her daughter and so do I. Maybe some cute blocks or garden theme will be nice.

Our Little Show 02

You'd like to make your first quilt, but it's all so confusing. Where to start? Then you should learn the basic for beginner! 

3 points that I told my new quilting friends :
First, be realistic with your beginning projects, choose some simple blocks.
Second, don't be so critical of your work, be proud that you finished the project. That's an achievement!.
Third, ENJOY the process! :))

It feels good to see your improvement with each block you complete. Great works, ladies!

For beginners, perfection is overrated.. Just do the best you can for where you are now..

Tutorial: Silent Star Block

A little bit unwell makes me late to post "Silent Star" tutorial, but I'm OK now :).

 HALF SQUARE TRIANGLE BLOCK

Steps:

1. Cut 2 light blue 5"x 5" squares, and 2 white 5"x 5". Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of white.
2. Place white square on light blue, right sides together.
    Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line. Cut apart on marked line.
3. Open and press. Measure square 4 1/2" x 4 1/2", and trim off the excess.
4. Four pieces half square triangle blocks... or you can make pinwheel block :).

HOURGLASS BLOCK

Steps:

1. Cut red 5 1/2 "x 5 1/2" squares, and white 5 1/2"x 5 1/2". 

    Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of white . 

2. Place white square on red, right sides together. 

    Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line. 

3. Cut apart on marked line.

4. Open and press to make 2 pieced half square triangle blocks.

5.  Place half square triangle on other square with opposite position red on white and white on red.
     And right sides together.
6.  Draw a diagonal line on wrong side. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line.

7. Cut apart on marked line.

8. Open and press to make 2 pieced hourglass blocks.

 9.  Twist the center on back side.

10. Hourglass Square

11. Measure square 4 1/2" x 4 1/2", and trim off the excess.

12. ( IF )To make 12"x 12" block need 9 pieced hourglass blocks.. I think for next project I will make a baby quilt from this block :))

HOURGLASS (VARIATION) BLOCK

Steps:

1. Cut light blue 5 1/2 "x 5 1/2" squares, white 5 1/2"x 5 1/2", and 2 dark blue 5 1/2"x 5 1/2".

    Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of lighter fabrics . 

2. Place white square on dark blue, right sides together. And light blue on dark blue.

    Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line. Cut apart on marked line.

SORRY, I FORGOT TO TAKE A PICTURE FOR NEXT STEP. PLEASE SEE RED AND WHITE HOURGLASS ABOVE!

Open and press to make half square triangle blocks : 2 pieced white and dark blue, and 2 pieced light blue and dark blue.

Place cross, white dark blue square to light blue dark blue square with right sides together. 

Draw a diagonal line on wrong side. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line. Cut apart on marked line.

3. Open and press, measure square 4 1/2" x 4 1/2", and trim off the excess.

4. Make 4 pieced hourglass blocks.

Join the pieced squares into rows, press the seams on each row in opposite direction.

Join rows into a block, making sure seams match from one row to the next. Pressing the seam in opposite directions helps them to lie flat.
